Thurgood, a new play on Broadway, capitalizes on the life of Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American to serve on the Supreme Court. Through his struggles, Thurgood sought out triumph. His accomplishments include a victory in the cases regarding school segregation, Brown versus Board of Education of Topeka and Murray versus Pearson. Another particular achievement was his success with the Supreme Court case, Chambers versus Florida, in which three black men were accused of killing a white man. Thurgood Marshall went on to become the Chief Council for the NAACP before his death in 1993. The play began in Westport County but now takes the lights among the lights on Broadway.
