The team began in North Carolina where they were appropriately named for the defense in the Revolutionary War led by General Cornwallis. It was said that the region led a “hornet’s nest of rebellion”. Therefore, the Charlotte Hornets were developed to conquer their opponents on the basketball court rather than the front lines of battle. When the NBA franchise owner received flack from the Charlotte community, the Hornets basketball team was later moved to New Orleans to compete in the Southwest division of the Western conference. The team once again was forced to move after Hurricane Katrina swept through New Orleans. The Oklahoma City community opened their stadium, the Ford Center, and their pocketbooks giving the New Orleans Hornets a home away from home. During their time in Oklahoma, the Hornets celebrated Chris Paul as the Rookie of the Year. The New Orleans Hornets now play at their home stadium, New Orleans Arena, and their attendance has increased upon their return. Make your way to New Orleans for a clean game of basketball.
