Robert James Ritchie began his career in the music industry as a young boy in a breakdance group. Fans of the group would shout wanting to see the white kid rock; quickly, Ritchie took on the name Kid Rock. This name stuck with him as he began a solo career. Despite his original style and bad boy image, his songs never broke into a mainstream market until his fourth album, Devil Without a Cause, entered the radio waves with songs like Bawitdaba, Cowboy and Only God Knows Why.
