The New Orleans Saints have suffered blow after blow on and off the field during their franchise history. Twenty years after the franchise's conception, the New Orleans football team celebrated their first winning season. The team has come away with three South division championships in the NFC to commemorate their talents. Although hardships have come with the glory, as the Saints stadium, the Louisiana Superdome suffered structural damage during the horrendous 2005 Hurricane Katrina. The 2005 season began at the New York Giants Stadium, and the remaining games were split between San Antonio's Alamodome and Baton Rouge's Tiger Stadium.
With defeat, the Saints built up strength. For the 2006 season opener, America had their eye on the New Orleans team. The Superdome had undergone renovations. The team was back at home. They were preparing to play their arch rival, Atlanta Falcons to a sold-out stadium and a national TV audience. The Saints came out in the game victorious naming the moment one of the "2007 Best Moments in Sports".
The Saints were named appropriately for the large Catholic population in New Orleans after the song "When the Saints Go Marching In". Also appropriately named is the dog mascot for the team, Gumbo, after the widely popular New Orleans delicacy. Following the tragedy that struck New Orleans in 2005, the city has seen great success with the Saints. The Superdome sells out entirely with only season tickets. Coming to a Saints game is not only a guaranteed enjoyable experience, but you are also stepping into a piece of history that displays the damage and rebuilding of a city.
