The French opera, La Fille du Regiment by Gaetano Donizetti, is coming to New York’s Metropolitan Opera house. The opera was first performed in 1840 in Paris and, seven years later, was performed in English for the first time in England. La Fille du Regiment is famous for the aria, popularly dubbed Mount Everest for tenors, which featured nine high Cs early in the opera, proving more difficult than most. This particular aria brought fame to Luciano Pavarotti. The opera depicts the tale of Marie, a young girl raised by soldiers and promises to love one of the regiment members until her actually family comes into her life. Marie must find how to bridge the gap between her two families in order to marry her true love. Don’t miss your chance to get tickets to La Fille du Regiment.
